Love, Laughter, and Lunch Event Raises More than $35,000 to Benefit CLF

Bloomfield Hills, Mich. (Oct. 19, 2018) – Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF) recently raised more than $35,000 during its annual Love, Laughter, and Lunch event. The funds raised will support the mission of CLF, which is to provide and promote compassionate, personalized support to people in Michigan affected by leukemia and other blood-related disorders.

Friends and supporters of CLF attended the annual women’s luncheon, which took place at The Village Club in Bloomfield Hills. Dr. Deanna Lites of WWJ-AM served as emcee for the program which included testimonials from mother and daughter Lorri and Carson Delaney, who also served as event co-chairs. The Delaney family became involved with CLF in 2001 when their then three-year-old son and brother Adam was diagnosed with leukemia. They shared how their lives were rocked by Adam’s leukemia diagnosis – and how CLF saw them through in their time of need.

“There are always moments that stick with you – hearing your child has leukemia is one of them. This is how we became involved with Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan,” said Lorri Delaney, co-chair of Love, Laughter, and Lunch. “Their mission is to support and surround families like ours. They not only connect with you and your child, but with your entire family. They help you in forming a plan. They share resources, support services, and most importantly, they remind you that you are not alone.”

Today, Adam is in his junior year at the University of Loyola Chicago and is planning to study abroad in 2019.

“Here at CLF, we know that dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be a difficult, emotionally charged journey – not just for the patient, but for the patient’s family and loved ones,” said Heidi Grix, President and CEO of Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. “We are so grateful for the support of the local business community and to volunteers who make events like these happen. Their continued support ensures families like the Delaney’s have somewhere to turn to overcome their diagnosis and get back to their lives – whether it is disease and treatment information, social work-based emotional support, financial aid or opportunities to have fun.”

Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan is a non-profit, state-wide organization with offices in Farmington Hills and Grand Rapids. Many events are hosted throughout the year to promote the mission of CLF, including the annual WALK event at the Detroit Zoo as well as the CRUSH event in Grand Rapids which offers wine and food samplings. Annual golf outings are also held each year, including the Gray’s Reef Golf Classic.
