Two Golf Outings Raise Nearly $170,000 for CLF

Farmington Hills, Mich. (July 2, 2018) – Two local golf outings recently raised nearly $170,000 to benefit Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan (CLF). The funds raised will support the mission of CLF, which is to provide and promote compassionate, personalized support to people in Michigan affected by leukemia and other blood related disorders.

The annual Gray’s Reef Golf Classic took place at Indianwood Golf and Country Club in Orion Twp., Mich. on June 18, 2018. More than 130 participants attended the event which raised more than $100,000 to benefit CLF. Established in 2006, the Gray’s Reef Classic brings together golf enthusiasts and supporters from the business community each year to support the work of CLF. The event was attended by CLF ambassador, Ember Miller, a five-year-old girl diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. Since enrolling with CLF in February 2016, Ember and her family have received holiday toys, as well as travel and prescription reimbursements.

Additionally, Basic Rubber & Plastics Company in Walled Lake, Mich., hosted its 25th golf outing benefitting CLF on June 18, 2018. Nearly 100 golfers attended the event at Edgewood Country Club in Commerce Township, Michigan, raising more than $66,000. Fifteen-year-old Mychaela Lovelace participated in the outing as a CLF ambassador. Mychaela enrolled with CLF in May 2008, soon after her diagnosis of aplastic anemia. Mychaela and her family have received grants, travel reimbursement and holiday toys because of their involvement with CLF.

“We are so grateful for the support from the local business community and to the volunteers who make these events happen,” said Heidi Grix, President, and CEO of Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. “The funds raised during these annual events will have a significant impact on the lives of Michigan adults and children affected by leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related disorders.”

Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan is non-profit, state-wide organization with offices in Farmington Hills and Grand Rapids. Several events are hosted throughout the year to promote the mission of CLF, including the annual WALK event at the Detroit Zoo as well as the CRUSH event in Grand Rapids which offers wine and food samplings. Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan also hosts Love, Laughter & Lunch; a fundraising luncheon supported and sponsored by the local business community.
